Penn State landed its first member of the 2024 recruiting class from New Jersey with four-star safety Vaboue Toure committing to play his college football for the PSU Friday afternoon.

The Irvington, NJ, native made an official visit to University Park last weekend and had plans to visit James Franklin and staff once more as well as Kentucky and Oklahoma in the coming days prior to making his commitment.

At 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, Toure has the potential to fill out his frame once at school and it adds depth to what is already an impressive looking safety room for Anthony Poindexter.

Toure is projected to be used as an alley safety in Manny Diaz’s defense. Prior to his official visit, he made an unofficial visit January 29th and was on campus for the game against Ohio State last fall.

Toure received his offer from the Franklin and staff in March of 2022 and had gotten offers from Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Rutgers, USC plus many more during his recruitment.

Toure accompanies four-star athlete Quinton Martin, four-star cornerback Jon Mitchell, four-star safety Dejuan Lane and many others in a No. 7-ranked 2024 recruiting class for the Nittany Lions according to 247Sports. Mitchell’s classmate, Antoine Belgrade-Shorter, is a three-star cornerback commuted to Penn State.

The addition of Toure gives Penn State five defensive backs in this cycle with Toure joining the aforementioned Mitchell, Lane as well as three-stars Antoine Belgrave-Shorter and Kenneth Woseley.

He is currently the No. 9 safety according to On3 rankings and No. 133 nationally while being No. 3 in the state of New Jersey.
