Peter Gonzalez, a three-star from Pittsburgh Central Catholic, is choosing between Miami, Penn State and Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder took his Penn State official visit this past weekend and took his Virginia Tech OV the weekend before. He doesn’t have one scheduled to Miami yet.
Gonzalez is the son of Pete Gonzalez, who played quarterback at Pitt in the late 1990s and had a cup of coffee with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1998 and ‘99 and was on the Colts’ practice squad in 2000. After that, the elder Gonzalez played in Canada with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2002-03.
Pitt offered the younger Gonzalez, but didn’t become a finalist.
Despite missing three games this past season with an injury, Gonzalez still posted solid numbers. He ended the season with 737 yards and eight touchdowns on 42 catches. The season before that, he caught 18 balls for 322 yards and four touchdowns. Gonzalez is also on Central Catholic’s Track & Field team.
Penn State offered Gonzalez in February 2022.
Along with his top three and Pitt, Gonzalez has offers from Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Iowa State, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
“It’s been a long process and I’ve been blessed for the process I’ve had but it’s time for me and my family to just shut it down,” he said. “It’s to get to peace of mind to where I am going to go and focus on my senior season.”
4-star WR Tyseer Denmark announced his commitment to Penn State Tuesday evening, two days after he announced his de-commitment from Oregon.
