Penn State is getting perhaps its most prominent official visitor of the 2024 recruiting cycle this weekend.
Jamonta Waller, a five-star DE/OLB from Mississippi’s Picayune Memorial High School, will be in Happy Valley June 9-11, he tweeted Tuesday night.

Penn State’s currently in Waller’s Top 10, which he released last month.
Also making the cut were Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He visited Auburn this past weekend and has visits planned to Florida (June 16) Georgia (June 23) and Texas A&M (July 28). Penn State offered Waller Oct. 31.
Waller’s the No. 28 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. He’s also the No. 5 EDGE in the nation and the top player in Mississippi.
He finished this past season with 106 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, an interception and a forced fumble. Waller’s also on Picayune Memorial’s Track and Field team. He had a long jump of 20-2 twice last spring and also posted a 36-11 triple jump.
If Waller commits to Penn State, he’d be the first five-star to do so in this class. The closest thing Penn State had to a five-star right now is Quinton Martin from Belle Vernon High School near Pittsburgh.
Every year, 247 names 32 athletes as “five-stars,” and Martin’s currently No. 34 according to the site’s composite ratings. Penn State’s ‘24 class is 17 strong at the moment, with the latest three committing this past Sunday after the summer’s first official visit weekend in Happy Valley.
Unfortunately for Penn State and its fans, Ole Miss appears to be the favorite for the in-state prospect. 247’s lone Crystal Ball projection, placed by the Ole Miss Insider David Johnson, has him picking Ole Miss.
