Jay Paterno (‘91) will be on the Penn State Board of Trustees for three more years, as will Anthony Lubrano (‘82).

Penn State women’s soccer legend Ali Krieger (‘07) also got elected, and the three will start their terms July 1

There doesn’t seem to be anything polarizing about new board member Krieger, who won two World Cups with Team USA after her college career ended and will retire from the NWSL after this season.

Incumbent Jay Paterno has been a polarizing figure for Penn State fans since he coached under his legendary father. Incumbent Lubrano— who has been on the board for nine of the last 11 years— has openly stated that the reason he first ran for a seat in 2012 was because of what he felt was the University not acting appropriately in firing Joe Paterno amid the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal in November 2011.

Many Penn State fans see both Jay Paterno and Lubrano as part of the “old guard” that is holding the University back from reaching its full potential in the 2020s.

Here’s how the people of Twitter reacted to the latest Penn State BoT election results.
