Thursday was supposed to be the night Joey Porter Jr. became the first Penn State defensive back ever selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
It didn’t turn out that way.
Four defensive backs went in the first round, and Porter wasn’t one of them.
Penn State fans and some players took to Twitter to give their thoughts on Porter’s fall. They weren’t too pleased.
No reason Joey Porter Jr should still be on the board

Among the players in Kansas City in the green room not selected tonight: Will Levis, Joey Porter Jr, Brian Branch, and Keion White.

As the Steelers head into tomorrow with the 32nd pick, Joey Porter Jr. is on the board.

We will now really get to know what the Steelers think of Joey Porter Jr.
— Mike J. Asti (@MikeAsti11) April 28, 2023
Who would have thought that the Steelers would get a top LT like Broderick Jones with their 1st-round pick AND still have Joey Porter Jr. available with their first pick to open Day 2.
Can also still trade down if a team wants Levis. This has worked out perfectly for Pittsburgh.

There are not 31 players in this year’s draft better than Joey Porter Jr.
— Tyler Calvaruso (@tyler_calvaruso) April 28, 2023
Neither Joey Porter Jr. or Will Levis have been selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Can’t say I saw that coming

Another ex-Penn Stater, Will Levis, was supposed to be a high draft pick.
Levis had the second-highest odds to go No. 1 overall as of Tuesday, but the quarterback who became a two-year starter at Kentucky fell out of the first round.
Penn State twitter wasn’t quite as outraged about that.
Will Levis wasn’t the answer to Penn State’s problems.

Will Levis COULDNT beat out SEAN CLIFFORD at Penn State and y’all tried to tell everyone he was a first round pick
— JuJu (@JuJu_Da_Gamer) April 28, 2023
ESPN is so antsy for QBs to get taken.
Only in the NFL Draft do you get adults wondering why Bijan Robinson got taken so high and why Will Levis is still available.
— Donnie Collins (@PennStateTT) April 28, 2023
How is Will Levis getting a first round grade when he couldn't beat out Sean Clifford at Penn State for three years
— Morgan Pritchett (@M_Pritch14) April 27, 2023
Sean Clifford beat out Will Levis at Penn State.
— Kyle Kruger (@KiloKruger) April 28, 2023
Feel bad for him. Honestly. You never want to see things go badly for anybody.
But sanity has won out here. Because he’s really just not THAT good. Not top 10 good. https://t.co/ynGT81n22M— Cory Giger (@CoryGiger) April 28, 2023
I don’t think any of us are surprised one bit
— Cameron Blackburn (@CamBlurn) April 28, 2023
Once the colts didn't pick him not unexpected
— parker56 (@parkers56) April 28, 2023
League doesn’t think too much of Sean Clifford’s backup after all.
— Donny Football (@DonChed54) April 28, 2023
Every year, there’s a QB who is over hyped. I watched Will Levis play and compete for the Penn State starting job. He has some good tools, but he’s currently far from a top 10 pick. He can be a solid back up QB, learn and develop maybe after a yr or 2 to be a starting QB https://t.co/jjZ18DRKig
— Joe Darko (@joe_darko) April 28, 2023
Will Levis is just Christian Hackenberg but he wasn’t good enough to start at Penn State
— Justin (@Justin_14P) April 28, 2023
My heart goes out to Will Levis. His path to the NFL has been anything but easy.
Passed over at Penn State & transfers to Kentucky, now sitting undrafted in KC as the #NFLDraft first round ends… #FueltotheFire
