Penn State men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry could be on the move following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.
Shrewsberry was announced as one of the leading candidates for the head coaching job at Georgetown University early Saturday afternoon, according to Stadium basketball analyst Jeff Goodman.
Penn State’s Micah Shrewsberry has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the Georgetown opening, source told @Stadium.
I’m told Rick Pitino is currently not under consideration.

The news comes after Georgetown parted ways with former coach and NBA legend Patrick Ewing on Thursday.
Ewing was at the helm of the Hoyas for six seasons, guiding Georgetown to a combined 75-109 record. While coaching at his alma mater, Ewing guided the Hoyas to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021 after winning the Big East Tournament championship, but Georgetown has heavily struggled since.
The Hoyas finished 6-25 overall last year, going winless in conference play, before posting a 7-25 overall record and 2-18 in Big East play this season. Georgetown lost a Big East record 29 straight conference games that started in 2021 and ended this January.

Shrewsberry has posted a much better mark during his current tenure at Penn State, while also serving as an assistant at Purdue University and for the Boston Celtics. Ewing had never been a head coach prior to his time at Georgetown after 14 years assisting with four different NBA teams.
Georgetown was very justified in firing Patrick Ewing and probably should’ve done it years ago, but it does suck that it didn’t work out for him there since it took him a long time to get an opportunity and he probably won’t get another one now.

This season, Shrewsberry helped dig the Nittany Lions out of a massive hole and lead a charge that’s resulted in Penn State winning seven of its last eight games and a berth in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
Penn State has also nearly guaranteed itself a berth in the NCAA Tournament following its recent success, a step the Nittany Lions failed to reach in Shrewsberry’s first season in 2021-22.
