2024 LB Elijah Newby Can’t Hide ‘Overwhelming Excitement’ for Penn State Offer

Penn State’s history of developing top flight linebackers is well-known.

‘Linebacker U’ recently extended an offer to a player that they hope eventually joins their legendary linebacker fraternity.

2024 outside linebacker Elijah Newby (6’4″, 195-pound) attends Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut and last week, Penn State called to inform him that he earned an offer from the Rose Bowl Champions.

Newby’s offer list looks like Penn State, Utah, Louisville, Pitt, UMass, West Virginia, Kentucky, Army, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Boston College, Akron, UConn and Texas.

“Coach Connor offered me; our conversation began with him introducing himself before he went into detail about how he admires my play style and why he believes I would fit in well at Penn State,” Newby tells Nittany Sports Now. “I had overwhelming excitement when Coach Connor offered me. I was particularly happy because I have followed many of the great athletes that attended Penn State growing up, such as Micah Parsons and Abdul Carter.”

“The relationship between myself and Penn State has been good. We have been talking a lot about their program and how I fit into their style of play with my speed and physicality. The offer really solidifies that they see me as a guy that can add to their arsenal of championship minded teammates and coaches. I’m being recruited by Penn State to play outside linebacker. I would describe myself as a versatile player who is capable of doing everything on the field, blitzing, playing man-to-man coverage, and making big tackles in the open field.”

With spring practices set to begin next month, Newby and his in the process of planning what schools he intends to visit in March and April.

“I’ve have been communicating with a number of fantastic coaches and universities nationwide and I am planning to do more unofficial visits during my spring break as I plan my schedule this month,” said Newby.

Newby is also a standout performer on the Cheshire Academy Track and Field team.
