Penn State is in the running along with Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. Johnson (5-foot-11, 178 pounds) is the number four recruit in Louisiana, the No. 27 athlete, and the No. 221 overall recruit in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Penn State extended an offer to Johnson on October 5.
Johnson has been the starting quarterback for Lafayette Christian Academy for the past three seasons. As a junior, he threw for 3,162 yards and 34 touchdown passes to 10 interceptions helping the Knights to a 10-3 record and a berth in the Louisiana District II State championship game.
Johnson is an elusive runner in the open field especially when he breaks out of the pocket. He has the intelligence and awareness to play the quarterback at the high school level however, he is transitioning into playing defensive back at the college level, where he was lining up at various camp showcases last summer as he played a lot of snaps in the slot in coverage this past season.
There is no timeline on when Johnson will commit, or when he will visit Penn State.
