This ranking comes after Penn State’s 30-0 demolition of Maryland, at Beaver Stadium this past Saturday.
Last week, Penn State ranked No. 14.
As everybody knew coming in, Penn State is the third-highest-ranked Big Ten team, behind Ohio State and Michigan, who remain at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Both of those blue bloods are unbeaten and responsible for Penn State’s only blemishes through 10 games. Michigan beat Penn State 41-17 Oct. 15 in Ann Arbor, and Ohio State earned a 44-31 win over Penn State in Happy Valley Oct. 29. Ohio State and Michigan will play possibly m the biggest game of college football’s 2022 regular season Nov. 26 in Columbus. The Big Ten may send two teams to the Playoff, depending on what happens in Columbus.
Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State are the only ranked schools out of 14 Big Ten programs. Illinois has been ranked No. 21, but is no more after suffering its second straight loss, a 31-24 decision to Purdue.
Elsewhere in the top 25, Georgia remains at No. 1, and TCU is still No. 4. Georgia beat Mississippi State, 45-19, this past Saturday, and TCU beat Texas in Austin, 17-10.
Penn State has no chance to make the playoff, but is on the cusp of the top 10, but won’t get there if it doesn’t beat Rutgers Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30, and Penn State comes in as 19-point favorites. After Rutgers, Penn State closes its regular season Nov. 26 against Michigan State at Beaver Stadium in what will be the school’s annual Senior Day.
