Former Penn State running back John Lovett has been taken by the Vegas Vipers in the second round of the XFL at No. 12 overall.
Lovett played at Penn State for one season in 2021 after spending four years at Baylor.
The 6-foot-0, 209-pound back out of Burlington, New Jersey, played in nine games for Penn State, playing behind Keyvone Lee and Devin Ford, and rushed for 177 yards on 52 carries. His best game at Penn State came against Indiana, where he rushed for 41 yards on ten carries and caught two passes for 13 yards.
At Baylor, Lovett rushed for 1,803 yards for his career with a 5.07 yards per carry. His best year at Baylor was in 2019 when he rushed for 655 yards on 103 yards and five touchdowns while playing in all 14 games.
He signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May. He ultimately did not make the final roster, but now he will have another opportunity to play professional football and hopefully prove himself enough to get another opportunity at an NFL roster in the future.
The XFL season is scheduled to start the week following the Super Bowl on February 18, 2023.
