On Tuesday, Joseph Mupoyi, a three-star athlete out of St. Thomas More Prep School in Oakdale, Connecticut, received a Crystal Ball prediction to Penn State by Steve Wiltfong, Director of Football Recruiting for 247Sports.
Mupoyi is a 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive end who is the number four player in Connecticut, the No. 46 edge rusher and the No. 504 player nationally according to 247’s composite rankings.
Penn State offered him last December and visited Penn State for its White Out game against Minnesota.
Mupoyi has a big frame and a fast twitch for his size. He has a 6-foot-10-inch wingspan to go along with a 35.2-inch vertical. Mupoyi beats his linemen with his long frame and constantly makes plays in the opposing backfield. He registered 27 tackles for loss and 12 sacks as a junior. He’ll need to improve his technique as he sometimes plays too high.
Mupoyi first played high school football at Archbishop Caroll High School in Washington, D.C., alongside five-star recruit Nycholes Harbor, one of the highest-rated uncommitted recruits in the 2023 recruiting cycle. He is now playing alongside Penn State commit Zion Tracy on St. Thomas More’s defense.
Penn State would love to close the deal on Mupoyi and have him join Jameial Lyons and Ta’Mere Robinson as edge rushers in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
