On Monday, Penn State point guard Makenna Marisa was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List, an annual award given to the best point guard in Division I women’s college basketball. She is one of only 20 players named to the list and the only player in the Big Ten conference.

The 5-foot-11 Marisa is a senior out of Peters Township in McMurray, Pennsylvania, averaging 22.2 points which is good for second in the conference and sixth in the country, along with 4.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season.
She was named a First-team All-Big Ten selection and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in her junior season. She scored 30 points or more in five games and scored in double figures in all the games in 2021-2022.
She was named a preseason First-team All-Big Ten before the 2022-2023 season.
As Penn State starts its season, Marisa is currently 25th all-time in school history in scoring with 1,244 points, 11th in three-pointers made with 127, and third in free throw percentage (.836).
Fans can start voting for Marisa starting on Oct. 21. The list will be narrowed down to ten in late January, and then cut to five in February. The Lieberman award will be awarded to the player by the Basketball Hall of Fame’s selection committee in March. No date has been confirmed when the award will be presented.
