Unsurprisingly, Penn State RB Nick Singleton earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for his performance in Saturday’s win over Ohio.

In his second college game and first at Beaver Stadium, Singleton rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. His highlights included touchdown runs of 70 and 44 yards, as well as a 48 yard run on the first play of the second half.
Singleton became the first Penn State running back to break 100 yards since Keyvone Lee did it against Michigan in 2020. His 179 yards were the most by a Penn State RB since Journey Brown went for 202 in the 2019 Cotton Bowl against Memphis.
Additionally, Singleton gained the most rushing yards of any Penn State freshman since Saquon Barkley went for 194 against Ohio State in 2015
A five-star signee from Governor Mifflin High School, Singleton was rated the No. 1 running back in the 2022 class by 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Singleton’s senior year performance— 2,059 yards and 44 rushing touchdowns— earned him both regional and national accolades. He won the 2021 Gatorade National Player of the Year, was named Mr. PA Football and was selected to participate in the US Army All-American Bowl.
Singleton will look to continue his momentum this week against a much stiffer opponent in Auburn.
