No. 21 Penn State women’s volleyball has started the year 6-0 after a sweep of LSU on Saturday. It was their third power-five victory on the year, having already defeated Big 12 schools West Virginia and Iowa State.
Penn State was playing in a tournament hosted by LSU and came out undefeated. In addition to LSU and Iowa State, they swept Troy as well in the tournament.
The women’s volleyball team has only lost three sets all year, with half of their wins coming by sweeps. Though this success can be taken with a grain of salt as six of the Big Ten’s 14 teams remain undefeated thus far.
In this match, Penn State was led by junior libero Maddy Bilinovic who tallied a career-high 21 digs, her previous best was 19 that she set earlier this year against West Virginia. Anjelica Starck led Penn State in kills with 13 and had six of the team’s eight blocks. Overall, they held LSU to just .222 hitting, almost half of their percentage from their previous match.
Penn State will go on to play in the Big Ten/Pac 12 challenge next weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They will play Stanford on Friday, September 9th at 6:00 p.m. and Oregon on Saturday, September 10th at 5:30 p.m.
