A pair of Penn State players received honors for their performances in Penn State’s big road win over Auburn on Saturday.
For the second consecutive week, Nicholas Singleton was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, and Ji’Ayir Brown was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Singleton rushed for 124 yards on ten carries and scored two touchdowns in Saturday’s game. He has an electrifying 53-yard run on Penn State’s first drive in the second half on a drive that ultimately led to him scoring on a two-yard run to put Penn State up 21-6. Then in the fourth quarter, after an Auburn score to make the score 31-12, Singleton put the final nail in Auburn’s coffin with a 58-yard touchdown run.
Singleton became the first Nittany Lion to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Week since Saquan Barkley in 2015.
Brown recorded four tackles, a strip-sack on TJ Finley on the second drive of the second half and intercepted a pass by Robby Ashford in the red zone when Auburn was driving down the field to make it a two-score game.
Brown has won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second time as he won the award after his performance against Maryland last season.
