Chris Fowler is a big fan of Penn State’s famous White Out. In fact, he sees it as the best environment not only in the Big Ten, but the entire country.

Fowler recently gave his input on who has the best home-field advantage in the Big Ten and didn’t hesitate to pick Penn State.
“There are so many proud programs, obviously,” Fowler said. “For me, though, the Penn State White Out environment (that) happens just one time a year, is the best annual environment in college football. That show of unanimity by wearing the all-white and the support they have, the energy in that place. I’ve been so lucky to call so many big White Out games.”
Fowler has been behind the mic for Penn State’s last five White Out games, and has had some calls that Penn State fans will always remember, such as
- Marcus Allen’s blocked kick that Grant Haley returned for a game-winning touchdown in Penn State’s upset over Ohio State in 2016 (Grant Haley will score!)
- Saquon Barkley’s 69-yard touchdown in the second play of Penn State’s win over Michigan in 2017 (Saquon Barkley, say bye-bye!)
- Sean Clifford’s 53-yard touchdown pass to KJ Hamler against Michigan in 2019 (He’s got him! Touchdown, Penn State!)
Flower’s broadcast partner and former “College Gameday” colleague, Kirk Herbstreit, has also been complimentary of Penn State’s fans in the past, famously saying Beaver Stadium had “the best student section in the country” and affectionately calling the students “crazy” in 2005.
Fowler’s opinions are sure to spark some debate among other Big Ten fanbases.
“Yes, there are great fans in Columbus, (Ohio State) and East Lansing, (Michigan State) and ‘The Big House,’ (Michigan) but for me, Penn State and the White Out environment is No. 1 in the Big Ten.”
