Penn State Football All 105: Downingtown’s Drew Shelton Getting Started at Penn State

All 105 is a Nittany Sports Now series profiling each Penn State football player. This edition will look at true freshman offensive lineman Drew Shelton.

Height: 6-foot-5

Weight: 279 pounds

Hometown: Downingtown, Pennsylvania

Before Penn State: Shelton begins his college football career after three years of lettering at Downingtown West High School.

Shelton’s play as a senior earned him an invite to the 2022 Under Armour All-American game. 247Sports, On3, Rivals and ESPN all had Shelton as a four-star recruit. 247 had Shelton as the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania from his class. On3 and ESPN also had him No. 3 in the state, with On3 also ranking him the No. 7 offensive tackle prospect in the nation. Rivals ranked him fourth in PA.

Shelton committed to Penn State Sept. 4, 2020, choosing it over Florida, among other schools.

Where he stands: Fellow offensive lineman Landon Tengwall was Penn State’s second-highest overall recruit in its 2021 class.

He ended up redshirting that season, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if Shelton does the same this year with plenty of players ahead of him on the depth chart.

A quote about Shelton: “Drew’s doing great,” offensive line coach Phil Trautwein said at Penn State’s media day Aug. 6. “He’s smart. He loves football. He’s playing tackle right now, and that’s probably where I’m going to keep him for the rest of the year because he’s a bonafide tackle. He’s our future. He’s a great kid, loves ball, takes great notes, has all those things. Has good habits. So I’m excited about who he is and what he’s doing, and I’m excited he’s here. He’s a good kid.”
