Jermaine Mathews, a Class of 2023 four-star ATH from Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, released his top six Wednesday afternoon, and Penn State made the cut.

Mathews (6-foot, 175 pounds) has Penn State as a finalist along with Cincinnati, Jackson State, LSU, Oklahoma and Ohio State. Penn State offered him last month.
Mathews helped Winton Woods to a state championship in 2021, and although he’s listed as an athlete, prides himself on his work at defensive back. Mathews has “#1 CB in OHIO” written in his Twitter bio and the first words people see when they begin his HUDL highlight film for 2021 are, in all caps, “JERMAINE MATHEWS 2023 CB PLAYMAKER!”
Three-star Lamont Payne is currently the only cornerback committed to Penn State’s 2023 class.
If Mathews commits, he’d also be the first player from Ohio to join Penn State’s class of 2023. Penn State currently has five players committed from Pennsylvania, three from Virginia, two from New York, one from Alabama and another from New Jersey.
Penn State signed two players from Ohio, quarterback Drew Allar and wide receiver Kaden Saunders, to its 2022 class. Allar came from Medina (Medina High School) and Saunders from Westerville (Westerville South).
