CBS Senior NFL writer Pete Prisco has put out his list of top 100 players in the NFL for 2022, and two former Penn State players, Micah Parsons and Chris Godwin, made it.
Parsons is behind five defensive players; Aaron Donald of the LA Rams, who came in at No. 1, TJ Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who came in at No. 7, Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns at No. 9, Jalen Ramsey of the Rams at No. 10 and Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers at No. 12.
Parsons had 84 tackles, 13 sacks three pass breakups and three forced fumbles in 2021 on his way to making first-team All-Pro, the Pro Bowl and winning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Prisco raved on Parsons’ ability to cover, run and blitz and wrote that those strengths make him one of the best defenders in the league heading into his second season.
Godwin was behind eight other wideouts on Prisco’s list starting with Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp at No. 5, followed by Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 11, Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings (No. 13), Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins (No. 17), Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals (No.18), Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers (No. 26), Stephon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills (No. 35) and CeeDee Lamb of the Cowboys (No. 57).
Godwin caught 98 passes for 1,103 and five touchdowns before suffering a torn ACL in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints. He signed a three-year contract in the offseason and is on track to be back on the field early in the 2022 season.
