Penn State is in Gallagher’s top eight, along with Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Pitt, Texas, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Both of 247’s “Crystal Ball” projections have Gallagher committing to West Virginia.
The commitment announcement is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Gallagher’s high school, Laurel Highlands, and is open to the public.
Gallagher has official visits scheduled to West Virginia (June 3-5) Notre Dame (June 10-12) Oklahoma State (June 13-15) and Penn State (June 17-19).
The combination of the West Virginia projections and Gallagher moving up his commitment announcement doesn’t appear to be promising for Penn State’s prospects to get him. Penn State had a similar situation with four-star defensive end Jameial Lyons last month. Lyons had initially scheduled his commitment announcement for August 4, but moved the date up all the way to April 22. Unlike Gallagher, Lyons was projected to pick Penn State by 247, and the projections proved accurate.
We’ll find out in just a few days if Gallagher’s projections will hit or miss.
