Penn State 2023 commit Alex Birchmeier is now a five-star according to On3 Sports’s consensus rankings.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pound interior offensive lineman from Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia, is the No. 1 player at both his position and in Virginia, and is ranked No. 25 overall in On3’s top 300.
Widely considered to be the best overall player and the proverbial ringleader of Penn State’s 2023 class, Birchmeier was the first player from the class to commit to Penn State, doing so this past July. Since then, eight total players and three offensive linemen have followed. One of the linemen, J’ven Williams, is a five-star according to On3’s site rankings and a four-star (No. 59 overall) in the consensus. Another four-star, tight end Andrew Rappleyea, is ranked No. 230 overall and No. 15 at tight end. Sitting not terribly far outside the top 300 is four-star ATH Mathias “Mega” Barnwell, who currently sits at No. 330.
The top five players in the country according to these rankings are; QB Arch Manning (undecided), QB Malachi Nelson (USC), CB Cormani McClain, (undecided), OT and Penn State target Kadyn Procter (undecided) and QB Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee).
Birchmeier is also a five-star according to 247Sports’s composite rankings. He also excels on the wrestling mat, and has won back-to-back Virginia state championships.
