On Monday, it was announced that Penn State’s season opener at Purdue schedule for Thursday, Sept. 1, will be televised on FOX. The time has yet to be announced.
The network gained rights to the game due to letting long-time play-by-play announcer Joe Buck out of his contract to join the ESPN Monday Night Football broadcast team continuing his partnership with Troy Aikman.
Fox Sports received an extra pick from the Big Ten’s 2022-2023 football slate and chose the Penn State-Purdue game. Fox will have 28 games on its Big Ten Football Slate, and ESPN will have 26 games.
In a deal struck by Jimmy Pitaro of Disney and Fox Sports president Eric Shanks, ESPN relinquished the rights to the Sept. 1 window of games. ESPN will be broadcasting the West Virginia-Pitt matchup taking place on the same night.
Penn State-Purdue was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, but was moved up to Sept. 1 last month.
Penn State will open its season with a road conference game for the third consecutive year.
The Nittany Lions lost to Indiana in 2020 and beat Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium last season.
Penn State leads the all-time series with Purdue 15-3-1, last playing in 2019 when Penn State won 35-7. Penn State last visited Purdue in 2016 and routed the Boilermakers 62-24.
