Former TCU edge rusher Ochaun Mathis named his top five schools and Penn State made the list. The other schools that were on his wish list were USC, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Texas.
Last month when Mathis entered the transfer portal, he became one of the best pass rushers in the transfer market. In his four years with the Horned Frogs, he has recorded 135 tackles and 15.5 sacks including a career-best nine sacks in 2020.

In Mathis, Penn State would like to replicate the success from another pass-rusher that came from the transfer portal in Arnold Ebiketie. Ebiketie led the Nittany Lions with 9.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, and earned First Team All-Big Ten honors after transferring from Temple last season.
Penn State already has their 2022 signees Dani Dennis-Sutton and Ken Talley as edge-rushers but will need to replace Ebiketie’s production.Â
Mathis can start  for Penn State or at least make a solid rotational piece for the next two seasons if Dennis Sutton and Talley are ready to contribute right away.
