Spencer, a native of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, roughly three hours away from State College, committed to Colgate out of Haverford High School in April of 2019.
The Raiders only played two games in the 2020 season, and Spencer didn’t catch any passes. Spencer caught three receptions for 14 yards in his sophomore season and gained three yards on two rushing attempts.
Spencer also saw time on special teams, gaining 378 yards on 20 kickoff returns and 25 yards on six punt returns. He’s the second receiver Penn State has landed from the transfer portal, with the first one, former Western Kentucky receiver Mitchell Tinsley, committing to Penn State Christmas Eve.
Tinsley is expected to start right away. Spencer’s path to playing time will be more difficult, as he will be coming in as a walk-on with Tinsley, Parker Washington, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and others ahead of him on the depth chart.
