Everybody knew Penn State would be in for an uphill battle against Arkansas in the 2022 Outback Bowl.
Penn State wasn’t able to climb far enough, and fell to the Razorbacks, 24-10. Penn State (7-6) ends its 2022 season with six losses in its last eight games.
Arkansas (9-4) drew first blood on a 12-play, 61-yard drive that ended the first quarter. Raheim Sanders capped off the series with a three-yard run.
Penn State answered in the second quarter. On the first play of Penn State’s second drive of the period, Clifford hit a wide-open KeAndre Lambert-Smith for a 43-yard score. Penn State added a Jake Pinegar field goal later in the quarter, and went into halftime up 10-7.
Arkansas drove down the field in the first 2:18 of the second half to take the lead. The Hogs added three more on their next possession to push the lead to seven. The Razorbacks scored again on their third and final possession of the third quarter, with the drive ending on Sanders’s second touchdown run, this one from one yard. That was all for the scoring.
For Arkansas, quarterback KJ Jefferson was the star. He went 14-19 for 98 yards passing and rushed for 110 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown. For Penn State, Washington caught seven passes for 98 yards, and Lambert Smith caught three balls for 74 yards with Penn State’s only touchdown.
Penn State’s next game will be Sept. 3, 2022, at Purdue.
