Penn State starts the weekend by adding to their Class of 2023.
3-star offensive lineman Anthony Donkoh announced that he was committing to James Franklin and the Nittany Lions. The 6’4″, 310-pound lineman becomes the 7th player in Penn State’s Class of 2023 and the third offensive lineman, joining Joshua Miller and Alex Birchmeier.
A couple interesting notes following this news are that four of Penn State’s seven commitments in 2023 have been players from Virginia: Donkoh/Aldie, Virginia, Joshua Miller/Chester, Virginia, Mathias Barnwell/Fredericksburg, Virginia and Alex Birchmeier/Ashburn, Virginia. Also, the three 2023 offensive line commitments are all from Virginia.
Donkoh has been relatively lightly recruited, having offers from only Duke, Liberty, Virginia Tech and West Virginia but Penn State believes he’ll be a solid interior, run-blocking lineman in the future.
“First and foremost, I would like to Thank God because without him, I would not be playing the sport I love so much,” said Donkoh. “I also want to thank my family and coaches for their constant support and encouragement. I want to thank my friends, my teammates, and everyone who has supported me. With that said, I am so excited to announce that I am continuing my education and football career at Penn State University.”
It’s interesting that Penn State has already received commitments from three offensive lineman after getting just three total in their Class of 2022. Despite this, look for Penn State to add more lineman during this recruiting class.
