James Franklin got out of the snowy weather in Pennsylvania on Tuesday to travel down South. He wasn’t going on vacation as this was a business trip with him going to see one of the top junior quarterbacks in the country.
Franklin was at Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia to check in on 2023 4-star quarterback Dylan Lonergan. Rivals currently rates Lonergan (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) as the No. 127 junior and 247Sports has him at No. 138. This national recruit currently holds offers from Penn State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

An interesting angle to this recruitment could be that Lonergan’s father, Dan, played quarterback at Penn State during the 1982 and 1983 seasons.
Nittany Sports Now traded messages this morning with Lonergan, who told us that he was only able to shake hands with Franklin but appreciated the fact that he took the time to make the long trip to Georgia to see him.
“It means a lot that he came down so early to visit me,” Lonergan tells PSN. “It shows me how interested they are in me, and I really appreciate that. I feel that Penn State is doing a great job recruitment me. They’re constantly reaching out and showing interest. Right now, they still stand in my list of top schools. We’ll see where it goes as I continue to narrow down my list.”
At this point, Lonergan has made unofficial visits to North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn and Alabama.
Franklin and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich are no doubt trying to get him to make the trip to visit them in State College.
