Former Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada To Be at Auburn In 2022

This coming fall, Penn State will be facing Auburn for the second year in a row and will be playing at Jordan Hare Stadium for the first time in program history.

In the two-plus weeks since Bo Nix, Auburn’s starting quarterback from 2019-21, transferred to Oregon, many have wondered who would be playing quarterback for Auburn in 2022.

It looks like that question has its answer.

Zach Calzada, who threw for 17 touchdowns, nine interceptions and had a 56.1 completion percentage as Texas A&M’s starter in 2021, announced Thursday afternoon that he’s transferring to Auburn, where he will presumably be Nix’s successor.

After taking over for injured starter Haynes King, Calzada started 10 games for the Aggies in 2021. Although he had a modest stat line as A&M’s starting quarterback in his lone season with the job, College Station will always remember Calzada for leading a 41-38 upset win over No. 1 Alabama at Kyle Field. In that game, Calzada was 21-31 for 285 yards, throwing three touchdowns and an interception.

The Lions and Tigers play Sept. 17 at Auburn. Gametime is yet to be determined.
