Penn State Opens as Heavy Betting Favorite Against Rutgers

With Saturday’s tough loss to Michigan dropping Penn State to 3-4 in the Big Ten, any conference aspirations went out the window, but the Nittany Lions still have a chance to finish the season with some momentum. It starts against Rutgers Saturday.

The Lions open as 18-point favorites against Rutgers, according to Circa Sports, in what’s expected to be a relatively low-scoring game as the over/under opens at 49.5 points.

DraftKings Sportsbook also heavily favors the Lions, setting PSU as an 18-point favorite. A bet against the spread for the Lions holds -105 odds while the same bet for Rutgers holds -115 odds. The over/under is set at 47 points, with both the over and under holding -110 odds.

A money line bet on the Lions holds -900 odds while the same bet for Rutgers holds +600 odds.

Rutgers, in the midst of an up-and-down 5-5 season, is coming off perhaps its best performance of the season in a 38-3 throttling of Indiana. However, the Scarlet Knights did lose the Wisconsin 52-3 two weeks ago…

The Penn State-Rutgers rivalry has been rather lopsided over the 71 year history of the two teams playing against one another. The Lions have won 24 of 25 games against the Scarlet Knights, including 14 in a row dating back to 1989. The Lions won last season’s matchup 23-7 on the road.

Both PSU and Rutgers are 6-4 against the spread this season. The Knights covered a 6.5-point spread against Indiana while the Lions failed to cover a 2.5-point spread against Michigan last week.
