2022 three-star power forward Maliq Brown from Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia is a recruit that has really come onto NCAA team’s radars in his senior season.
With offers from the likes of James Madison, Murray State, Old Dominion, Richmond, St. Johns, TCU, Texas A&M, VCU, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Georgetown, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech and Penn State, and interest from quite a few major programs, Brown (6-foot-9, 210 pounds) is a highly-regarded recruit.
But the chase to land his commitment just a bit more exlcusive, his Top 5 list including Virginia Tech, NC State, Georgetown, Syracuse and Penn State.

Blue Ridge completed an unbeaten 15-0 season in 2020-21, capped with a VISAA DII state championship. Brown helped lead the way with 12.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. He shot 74% from the field, 20% from beyond the arc and 63% from the free throw line.
According to 247Sports, Brown is the 222nd-ranked recruit in the cycle, checking in as the 45th-ranked power forward and the seventh-ranked recruit from Virginia. Rivals rates him as the 28th-ranked power forward in the class.
Brown made an offical visit to Syracuse in October and an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech in September, but neither 247Sports nor Rivals has projected his landing spot yet.
Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s 2022 recruiting class already has a lot of promise, ranked as the 14th best class according to 247Sports, and Brown would be a nice addition to a group without a power forward yet.
Brown has not yet announced his commitment date.
