As his program currently holds one of the top recruiting classes for 2022, James Franklin and his coaches are working to do the same for next season.
The Penn State Nittany Lions have gotten 3 early commitments for the Class of 2023 and are a contender for one of the top junior lineman in the country.
2023 4-star center Bradyn Joiner is the No. 1 ranked junior center and has narrowed down his list of 35+ offers to just eight schools, which includes Penn State.
Joiner (6-foot-2, 328 pounds) is from Auburn High School in Auburn, Alabama. On Monday, Joiner listed a Top 8 of (no order): Penn State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas, Michigan State, Mississippi State and Central Florida.
Nittany Sports Now caught up with Joiner and asked him about his interest in Penn State and why they made his Top 8.
“The way they are recruiting me is what got them in to the Top 8,” said Joiner. “They text me almost every day and they just keep building a relationship with me. Coach Trautwein has been my main recruiter from Penn State and they check in with me almost every day and they are highly interested in me.”
“I’m planning to make a trip up there to see everything because I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. All of my friends that have visited up there plus guys like Alex Birchmeier, Mathias Barnwell and Zane Durant have been pushing me and convinced me to go up there, so I’m planning on going.”
Birchmeier and Barnwell are two of PSU’s early commitments for the Class of 2023. Durant is a 4-star DT that is part of Penn State’s Class of 2022. Barnwell is a 4-star tight end from Fredericksburg, Virginia, while Birchmeier is a 4-star offensive lineman from Ashburn, Virginia.
