5 reasons Lions could contend for CFP in 2021

On the night Alabama beat Ohio State for the national title, let’s take a look at five reasons to be optimistic about Penn State’s chances of reaching the College Football Playoff next season.

Oh, and two big reasons why the Nittany Lions will have a very tough time earning their first CFP berth.

First, here’s a look at the odds for teams winning the national title next season, from SportsBetting.com. Penn State has the 11th best odds.

Over at BetOnline.ag, Penn State’s odds are +5000, and the Lions have the 16th best odd to win it all. Michigan also is at +5000.

I wrote a couple of weeks ago that Penn State’s defense could be in big trouble next year, potentially having to replace six starters. And if the defense struggles next year, there would be virtually no way the Lions could make the College Football Playoff.
