Despite two teams in front of it losing, Penn State remained No. 8 in this week’s coaches poll and No. 9 in the AP poll.
The Nittany Lions, who have yet to play a game, were jumped by both North Carolina and Oklahoma State in both polls. Those two teams are both 3-0.
Florida and Miami, both ranked ahead of PSU last week, lost on Saturday, so there was a good chance the Lions would move up in the polls. However, voters obviously liked the bodies of work of the 3-0 Tar Heels and 3-0 Cowboys and bumped them ahead of Penn State.
Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 5 in the coaches poll and stayed put at No. 6 in the AP poll.
Penn State and the rest of the Big Ten will open up play in two weeks.
