Penn State jumped two spots from No. 10 to No. 8 in this week’s coaches poll, released Sunday afternoon. PSU moved up one spot to No. 9 in The Associated Press poll.
Ohio State is No. 6 in both polls. The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are the only teams ranked in the top 10 that have still yet to play a game.
In the coaches poll, Wisconsin moved up four spots to No. 14, while Michigan jumped two spots to No. 19.
In the AP poll, Wisconsin rose three spots to No. 16, and Michigan is up three spots to No. 20.
Idle Big Ten teams are benefiting, as expected, by being able to move up in the polls when other teams ranked ahead of them lose.
The Big Ten season will not start for another three weeks. While most pollsters are including Big Ten and Pac 12 teams in the Top 25, some are still holding out on doing so because those conferences haven’t started playing yet.
