Cory Giger’s game breakdown and score prediction for Penn State’s showdown against Ohio State.
OFFENSE
PSU: QB Sean Clifford can’t make the careless throws that led to costly turnovers last week at Indiana. It’s also unrealistic to think Clifford is gonna be overly effective running the ball, after he went for 119 on the ground against the Hoosiers. PSU is down to third-string RB Devyn Ford and two freshmen, Keyvone Lee and Caziah Holmes. Lions likely will have tough time on the ground, so Clifford will have to get the job done through the air. Problem is, PSU doesn’t have elite WRs who can take control when needed.
OSU: QB Justin Field was otherwordly last week against Nebraska, completing 20-of-21 passes for 276 yards yards and three TDs. He also carried 15 times for 54 yards and a score. Fields poses huge problems with his arm and his legs for the PSU defense. RB Trey Sermon ran for 48 yards on 11 carries last week, while Master Teague III had 41 yards on 12 carries. WR Chris Olave is questionable after getting hit in the head last week, and he’s a good one. Olave had six catches for 104 yards against the Huskers, while Garrett Wilson caught seven passes for 129 yards and a TD.
Advantage: Ohio State
