Welcome to our daily Nittany Notebook. This post will be updated with news frequently throughout the day, so be sure to check back often to stay on top of everything that’s going on with Penn State football and athletics, plus other sports of interest in central PA.
Update: 9:35 p.m.
**I can’t understand how Florida State’s program got so terrible. FSU is getting humiliated in its rivalry game against Miami, 35-3.
There once was a time when the Noles were a top five staple for more than a decade. Now they’re a punchline.

**Goodness. SEC record for passing yards in a game. In the season opener. In his first game there (transferred from Stanford). And in Mike Leach’s first game at Mississippi State.
Crazy.
.@kj_costello was 36/60 in Mississippi State's upset win over No. 6 LSU 😳 pic.twitter.com/wGtm2ytaAz

**We could have had even more chaos in college football today as Texas Tech led Texas 56-41 late. The Longhorns rallied and won in OT.
Texas narrowly avoids an upset with a 63-56 victory over Texas Tech.
Sam Ehlinger is the first player in Texas history with multiple 5 pass TD games in a single season.
He is the 2nd to do this in a career, joining Colt McCoy. pic.twitter.com/GJvTzGtqpi

**INSANE!!!!!
Kansas State pulled off the comeback, upset win over Oklahoma, 38-35.
Entering today, teams were 1-545 when trailing by 21 points vs AP Top-5 teams since 2004.
This is just their 2nd win over a top-3 team. It's previous win also came vs Oklahoma back in 2003. pic.twitter.com/OoBgWX2a5y

**Thoughts and prayers go out to Erie McDowell football player who collapsed on sideline and underwent brain surgery in Pittsburgh.
Here’s the story from GoErie.com.
Jonathan Heubel and I had some great conversations during this covid era where it changed week by week if there would be a season. All he wanted was a senior season with his teammates. Sending all the prayers and well wishes his way. I'll pass along any updates if I get one.

The Heubel family posted on social media that Jonathan is being flown to Pittsburgh with possible brain issues. Really need prayers for the Heubel family and Jonathan right now everyone. 🙏

A few Penn State football questions to consider: Defensive difference-makers, Journey Brown’s upside, top tackler, more https://t.co/PAafsiOkjP
