The Southeastern Conference kicked off play today, starting its season a couple of weeks later than some other conferences.
It presented a good time to ask the question: Is the SEC truly that much better than all other conferences, or is the league overrated?
I posed the question to Penn State and Big Ten fans on Twitter, and their responses were mixed. Many totally agreed that the SEC deserves all the hype it gets, while some others feel the league is overrated once you get past the top few teams.
SEC is the best conference year in year out in my opinion. The NFL talent that is turned out out and recruited in is astonishing.

Been to Ole Miss a few times, they take tailgating to another level.
SEC is probably the best overall conference but not that much better than big ten, they have better mid tier teams. Outside of PSU, OSU, Wisconsin and maybe Michigan the rest of league is ok ish at best

The top 4ish teams are awesome. The rest of the league just rides their coattails and puffs their chest out as if they are in Bamas stratosphere.

There are 25 or so College Football programs that matter, whether it’s for results or tradition or a combination. 12 are in the SEC. It is the heart and soul of College Football.

Too bad there can’t be more play with top teams in otherpower five conferences. If Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State etc played each other we we might be able to see if the SEC is as good as everyone thinks.

When there’s 6 SEC teams ranked in front of a 2-0 Miami team with already a a top 20 ranked win.. thats BS right there! Every years the SEC gets too much hype

Great teams, athletes, and traditions. Fans are smug but deservedly so – at least for the top half of programs. I would just love to see them have to play games in late November B1G weather. (And for smug fans to sit in it!)

Obviously the SEC is great football
Its the over-stating of how good the conferences is that gets annoying
Penn State would win a ton of games in the SEC like that they do in the B1G. But SEC fans act like they wouldn’t be .500
So dumb.

It is, unfortunately, the conference with the most talent, which does make it “awesome.” I also think some of the mid-talent schools get love that they don’t deserve. So it’s definitely a bit of both, but leans more towards the “awesome” category.
