He didn’t say it in a tone that conveyed cockiness but Nick Singleton made his point clear: he feels himself and Kaytron Allen make up the best RB tandem in college football.
This isn’t a viewpoint shared by everybody.
Some would argue that Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love (1,057 yards, 16 touchdowns, 7.4 YPC) and Jadarian Price (683 yards, seven touchdowns, 6.8 YPC) are America’s best RB duo.
If Penn State beats Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl and Notre Dame does the same to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, those duos will go against each other’s defenses. Who knows if that will happen? But for now, it’s clear who Singleton feels is the best.

Singleton had plenty of reason to be confident after he ran for 90 yards and a touchdown (6.4 yards per carry) against an SMU run defense that came in ranked fourth in the county.
Allen was no slouch either, going for 70 and also averaging 6.4.
“Me and Kaytron, we always say, we’re the best backfield in the nation,” Singleton said after the game. “We stand on it. We have to give a shoutout to the o-line. They did a good job today doing what they’re doing. (We have to) keep going with it. Keep practicing hard, taking one at a time. Just find the little stuff we can just get better at.”
Singleton’s QB agreed.
“Like Nick said, they’re the best backfield in America,” QB Drew Allar said. “I truly believe that.”
PEAKING AT THE RIGHT TIME

Allar tried to make a point that the offense was crescendoing at the right time.
He wasn’t sure if he said “crescendoing” right, which elicited laughs from the press room.
But Allar’s point was clear: Penn State’s whole offense wants to be at its best in the College Football Playoff.
With 297 yards against an elite defensive front in Oregon in the Big Ten title game Dec. 5 followed up by dominating SMU, it sure looks like the running game is hitting its stride.
No. 6 Penn State now takes on No. 3 Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl New Year Eve night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 on ESPN.
